RME TotalMix FX | Introduction & Submixes
In this 1st part of my RME TotalMix FX indroduction series, we'll have a practical look at how this software helps you to understand, setup and manage monitor mixes for your band recording.
In upcoming parts I will focus on practical examples for audio engineers incorporating outboard gear in their mixing & mastering tasks.
And I also plan other parts focussed on practical examples for live streaming purposes.

Kemper Profiler | Liquid Profiling?
Переглядів 2,6 тис.Рік тому
Here's my guess what Liquid Profiling on the Kemper Profiler will actually achieve / change ... if you decide to use it in the profiling process. I think it's focussed on the "Gain" knob and its behaviour only. Tonestack models will be a different thing, imho.

WAV better than FLAC? | Wrong!
Переглядів 10 тис.2 роки тому
Here I quickly demo that FLAC is exactly the same like it's corresponding WAV file. Nothing gets changed when you compress to FLAC, that's why it's called "lossless" after all. :) It's just compressing the file, not its audio content. Cheers

Overdrive Types | What's the difference?
Переглядів 1564 роки тому
In this video I compare a few different overdrives with RTA frequency plots to show how different overdrive pedal types differ or not. I've tested and compared Kemper Green Scream, Kemper Drive, Ceriatone Centura and Colorsound Power Boost. You'll likely be surprised how similar Green Scream and Kemper Drive actually are ... and how they can't mimic the 2 actual pedals at all.

Kemper Rig Manager | Windows App Scaling!?
It was never a matter of flac being bit-for-bit different as a codec, it was people arguing over how much the decoding CPU processing of flac impact makes down the chain in any given player. Wild claims about causing power supply jitter and all kinds of crazy stuff which may affect audible result after decoding and actual playback - perhaps more focused towards weak hardware players than powerful computers. The other thing is you can't simply null against a MP3 file like that, because an MP3 encoder doesn't just cut off dynamics, it changes it entirely. Causing a reversed phase cancellation test like that to show much more than is intuitively meaningful for such a test.
what can u suggest for me to use to attach simple image on wav file and upload on youtube so that music did not lose any quality? ( like if its 100mb it stays 100mb after converting it to mp4)
great video! absolutely nice wording, coz my eng is bad, but i understand a lot of u say. and i see everything, u show everything u do. thank you
Thinking of getting the Plus. Can the knobs control via MIDI?
berarti, intinya sama kualitas, hanya beda ukuran?
1:45 mp3 is lossy*
Thank you, very helpful! l've learned some new things. You explain things in a very understandable manner.
This video does not describe using the S3 Surround outputs - you should have included that
Which application is that??
Mr Martin, you have no idea of how much of a proof I wanted to hear / listen / see based on this topic, thank you so much !!!
Thanks for the practical demonstration mate, appreciate it.
Compression ruins audio because decompression increases jitter in the analogue audio signal.
Yes. I also understand this and tested intensively. And I notice.
LOL
Great video . Here’s a sheet for you 😂 : Superior drummer live tracking to daw So here’s the deal . I have managed to get a really good workflow to get superior drummer in multitrack mode and record (print) some analog plugins with it . Basic thing, neve preamp and EQ and finishing it in tape, linked on each channel to simulate the multitrack recording on tape . All this procedure is done in the -18 dbfs as all these plugins are calibrated there . Now . Exiting from the busses I record live , to tracks by either playing live in a v drum or just a midi . All outputs from the buses go to each corresponding channel in order to record the channels from SD3 that I need . So the gain staging to this part is totally correct . Now. I am exporting the tracks in 32 bit float, no normalise or anything . When I go to my mixing template it always start or it’s the second plugin, with a channel strip , in my case all the bx, 4000E for drums and 9000j for the rest of the instruments . The question is : is there any other way other than putting on each channel a gain plugin first in order to bring the levels down in a normal level , usually this is -14db on the gain plugin, in order to mix with my faders close to unity ? My master bus comp is calibrated and it’s all working great with the gain plugin but there is no trim built in in Logic Pro ? This is where I’m currently working as my studio one , which has this option in the input stage , has expired so I returned to Logic Pro 🙂 Thank you 🙏
Thank you sir. finally, storage problem solved. Bye "wav"...😅
Thanks for Demonstrating! Been ripping all my CD collections to WAV and now Flac.
Use what your ear likes.
Ummmkay. To my ear, out my ProAc's...WAV whoops Lossless.
WAV is as lossless as it gets.
Best concise explanation with evidence… Thanks!
WAV better
Decompression increases jitter in the analogue audio signal.
what app is that?
Wavelab Pro
Man in the vox!😂
Do you think that using an analog drive stomp box between my guitar and the Kemper input, instead of using Kemper's internal stomp, could provide some freedom from the aliasing problems generated by the internal stomp drive? I felt that when I used the Boss Blues Driver in this way, some of the unnatural high-frequency sounds I knew from the Kemper were somewhat alleviated. (it just my opinion) I'm curious about your thoughts on this.
Very nice introduction. Your pace was perfect for me. I eagerly await the arrival of my first RME interface - the UFX ii. I can't wait!
great video. Would have liked more detail on the panning you done within SD3 to get the mono channels in cubase. I think it's a bit confusing that selecting 32 mono outs in SD3 still shows 16 stereo busses. I understand though, sending all my kick and snare mics to 1/2 in sd3 andpanning all my kick mics left and snare mics right in sd3 will output the kicks to mono channerl 1 in cubase and panning the snarw mics hard right on the same 1/2 buss insd3 will output to mono 2 in cubase. I mix hybrid with an analog board and use cubase like a multititrack recorder. Subscribed. thank you for sharing
Very nice video. What kind of level of compression do you recommend? eg. RX has option to do from 1 to 8
Super, just what i needed now, thanks for making the video!
Hello there, in your video about sends you have four pages. When I turn on my x-touch that I'm running with cubase 11 I only see two pages 2 and 4.I tried all protocols and interface USB and MIDI but no change. Is there something I'm doing wrong?Could you inform me please?
Hello! Can you control the volume of group channels with the faders? Or only solo audiochannels? Thank you!
So well explained 🎉
I am in the process of re-ripping much of my music. I tried ripping a few to WAV but stopped, mostly, because it takes about 5 times longer than ripping to FLAC.
Aiff might be faster.
how to know which one has more sounds?
Neither has more sounds
@@TheTastefulThickness wrong!
@@ImNotGoodAtNaming Oh im correct. You can have an MP3 inside a .wav container. You can have a high res file inside a flac file. Knowing the container doesn't tell you "which has more sounds".
@@TheTastefulThickness it's a joke
@@ImNotGoodAtNaming ok
WAV will win in actual playback....flac requires more computer work and will be degraded slightly
@nicksterj wav does not need unfolding or decompress...less computation equals less jitter...listen to Paul of PS audio. ....is it enough to hear a difference on all systems or with all ears maybe not. I personally don't like flac. Much prefere wav.
@nicksterj believe what you want, I prefere WAV and I take the advice from the owner of PS audio over "some internet nicksterj"
Sounds Excellent✅✅✅ ...mind sharing your mic, pre, and converters used on your voice in this video?? Thanks.
After going back and forth on my own between wav and flac and hearing absolutely no difference I just ripped all my cds in wav. Why? Just because wav is supposedly a “perfect” copy of the cd with no compression and because I don’t have storage problems. If storage is a problem then yes just go with flac. You will hear no difference.
Metadata didn't work on Android for wav file
🙏
interesting but is it practical in real-world use? if you could compare which one is less CPU intensive it would be awesome
Thank you Martin. I always look for it when I'm on a new computer, and I forget it's hidden in the taskbar. I looked in windows folders for 40 mins before I found your video and solution. Cheers!
For years, I have noticed that wav sounds slightly more bassy than aiff when I compare the same song exports. Anyone else notice this?
@nicksterj I was talking about simply exporting the same song in both formats and hearing the difference. My device is an M2 MacBook Pro 2023.
I am exporting from the latest version of Ableton Live at the time of this comment. Given the user base, we can rule out something like this being a symptom of the software.
I believe it’s possible you’re using an Acer or Asus branded Windows device of some kind to carry out this scientific audio analysis and hearing your results through a pair of Beats by Dre just to hazard a guess? You won’t be able to distinguish these subtle audio differences that way yet. Alternatively, maybe there are just some frequencies you cannot hear anymore - who knows.
You may ‘believe’ that they sound exactly the same on paper based on what you are told is proven. I’m human and cannot possibly distinguish audio ‘bit for bit’ but I listen intently and make decisions with my ears and I hear a difference in the lower frequencies between the lossless AIFF and WAV formats. I have exhausted all possible setting combinations using multiple DAWs and multiple systems and the fact remains. And has done for years.
Increible explicación 😮. Gracias por darnos este tipo de información tan valiosa.
hi Martin could you explain please how did you connect the instruments with the stream deck , i can fiollow your guide but not sure how to bring to Elgato the instrument i want to configure.
ROFL BRILLIANT Thank you for destroying countless arguments, flaming, and trolling over this issue Fantastic analysis!!
Dada 💟💟💟💟
MP3 is the best from 128 but it should be compressed with High quality raw file cautiously there is no difference
MP3 is a very outdated audio codec (it's from the late 80s) that frankly should not be used anymore except when it's the only format supported by a device. Even the tiny Sansa Clip supports Ogg Vorbis, which sounds much better than MP3 at the same bitrate. Ogg Vorbis at 128 kbps is nearly transparent. But even Ogg Vorbis isn't the latest and greatest. That title goes to (IMO) Opus, which sounds nearly transparent at 100 kbps (for stereo music), and mono speech sounds nearly transparent at 24 kbps. You can even go down to 16 or 12 kbps for speech without much sacrifice in quality!
@@christopherwilliams2370 MP3 is still a relevant audio codec, especially when collecting music on a portable audio player. FLAC is much better than MP3, of course. The problem you run into is the size. For most people listening to music through their headphones while on the go, there is very little difference in sound between the two.
Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to make this
Thanks, I learned about Cue mixes to diagnose headphone issues. Would love to see videos about integration of outboard gear. I just got my UFX III a month ago. Enjoying it very much, but lots to learn! 😅
Yes, outboard gear routing in TotalMix would be great!!
i just updated to windows 11 and following your instructions but neither appears in the list of system tray icons. Any idea how to do on windows 11?
Sorry, none of my computers is on Windows 11 yet. Good luck. :)
Looks like flac is very mildly compressed Audio format but WAV is completely Raw & uncompressed.
bait used to be believable
Both are exactly the same, lossless data compression has absolutely no effect on audio quality, lossless is truly lossless
Why would you use Snapshots when you have a dedicated Speaker B button and config in the control room?
Thank you for this tutorial video.
